The extended Resident evil 5 trailer is set to hit in 2 days time, but I've already got shots of it, along with a look at the playable mystery woman I mentioned before. Who exactly is she!? Capcom won't reveal her name, but has said that she had been captured at some point in the series and had never been rescued...The magic box seems to think it's Rebecca Chambers, but I'm still having this feeling it could be Jill. As far as I know Rebecca was never captured. She never appeared to have much of a central role in Resident evil 1 and even in Resident evil 0 she played second fiddle to Billy Coen. But there may be something about her. Something significant we don't know. She's a character who very little is known about, so tihs would definitely be a chance for Capcom to flesh her out and bring to light some cool revelation about her and why she was captured.
It could however still be Jill. Jill set off across Europe to look for Chris after the nuclear wipeout of Raccoon city. She did so on her own, so it's likely that if she was captured that nobody would've known. Unless Chris caught wind of Jill's capture and headed to the remote area to find her. Or by chance the two of them had followed leads that lead them both to the remote area and unknowlingly, one another...
But it doesn't stop there folks. The mystery woman could also be the oft forgotten about Sherry Birkin. Her parents played a pivotal role in creating the T-virus. She was taken by the US government after the wipeout of Raccoon city, but according to Wesker's reports she is in his care. What happened to her? Captured, but never rescued? She was 12 when Claire and Leon first met her and took her under their wing. With Resident evil 5 said to be set around 8 - 10 years after the events of Resident evil 2, this would mean she's pushing her twenties. More than old enough for Capcom to doll her up, give her gun and have the rabid villagers have their way with her.
We'll get a better idea of things when the full trailer hits, as I'm sure we'll get a better look at the mystery woman along with confirmation who she is. The screenshot on it's own doesn't reveal much as the female could easily pass as either Jill, Rebecca or an older Sherry Birkin.

holy shit dude, you really thought that out. my brain hurts from trying to remember all those characters and plotlines.....
*Let it be Jill, let it be Jill...*
I can't beleive I'm so excited about a title that isn't going to be out till 2009 on a console I don't own...
What can I say El moco. *shrugs* I heart Resident evil plenty! :D
F**k knows how I'm going to play Resident evil 5 when like you fatherkrishna I have neither of the consoles the game is releasing for. I need to come up with some sort of plan, because I can't not play this game day of release. I've got a whole year to get it together I guess, so there's no rush! :)
Wow, cool conspiracy, I hope that this air will be cleared, as I am also curious of the identity of the girl, it could be either of the three, but my best bet would be Claire Redfield...
Its Sherry!
On Weskers Report She Is Safe In His Hands...He Also Said Theres Something About Her...So Without A Doubt I Believe Its Sherry...I Think Jill Will Be In It But It Aint Jill...It Doesnt Look Like Her.She Looks Like An Older Version Of Sherry And It Cant Be Rebecca Either
It's SHERRY BIRKIN, you stupid fucking failures
Why don't you go f**k yourself you ignorant arsehole.
What a fucking retarded faggot he is.
Looking at the image it could be anyone, especially given how the characters keep changing in appearence. It resembles Jill and Rebecca, or even a female Leon,
but I'm sure like everyone else it'll be Sherry.
That is Sherry Birkin. It hasn't been officially confirmed, but I've been playing Resident Evil forever. She is the only character who has been captured and never released, may have a virus, and is old enough to be a blond (like is pictured) with that hair style.
Rebecca Chambers was never captured. She's been reclusive since her escape from the Mansion. (Which she was safe after.)
JIll Valentine is safe and sound. She and Carlos Olivera are off doing their thing. What that is, nobody knows. But she hasn't been captured, that's a fact.
Claire Redfield is safe after Resident Evil: Code Veronica where she fell in love, then had to leave him there as he mutated at the hands of Alexia. It's highly unlikely that it'd be Claire, too, because she would have been with Chris who I doubt would let her be taken twice.
This also leads me to believe it's Sherry. Claire cared very much for that girl, but seemed clueless/careless as to her whereabouts in Resident Evil: CV. It's confirmed in her epilogue from RE3, though, that she left both Leon and Sherry to fend for themselves as she went on with her mission to find her brother. Now that she's got him, though, it's highly likely the pair are out searching for Sherry after Claire has spoken with Leon and discovered that Sherry was taken by Government agents, as well as Albert Wesker subsequently.
I'm just glad that this time around, Sherry Birkin will actually be of some use. In RE2, she was a very useless and difficult character to handle, but did offer some very in-depth storyline and interest.
This time, guys... get ready, Sherry's going to become one of the many strong-willed femme fatales that Resident Evil boasts.
